Are You Ready for Turkey Day Run?

Before you sit down for your Thanksgiving feast with friends and family, are you planning to participate in the annual Turkey Day Run? This event has been going strong for over a hundred years now and this Thanksgiving Day marks the 42nd year that it has been directed by the Knights of Columbus. Our team was honored to develop the website for this revered Charlestonian tradition.

What Is Turkey Day Run?

The Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble is the ninth largest 5k in the nation and it takes place in downtown Charleston. Last year, the Knights of Columbus registered more than 7,000 participants and they are well on their way to breaking 8,000 registrants this year.

The Race

Runners will begin on the Meeting Street side of Marion Square. Once the start gun goes off at 9 am, participants will run along Marion Square, past historic homes on their way to the Battery, then loop back up to King Street and finish in front of the Francis Marion hotel.

After the Run

After you have finished the Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble, join other participants back in Marion Square for live music from Melodic Entertainment. The after party will include free food and beer (21+), plus activities for the little ones.

The Children’s Fun Run will begin in Marion Square at 10:30 am and it is divided into four heats based on age. Each child’s registration comes with a bib, a t-shirt, and a prize.

Come See Us!

The Design Group will be participating in the Turkey Day Run Expo on Wednesday, November 27th from 9 am to 6 pm. Our team of web design and digital marketing experts will have a booth set up and we’re looking forward to meeting businesses and community members with web design or marketing needs!

Should you happen to visit our booth, you can expect to find sweets in the form of Turkey-themed oreos (you’ll have to visit to learn what that means), cold brew from Riptide Coffee, and a business card raffle. Come chat with us about your business needs and drop off your business card in our raffle jar for the chance to win a $100 gift card to any of Holy City Hospitality’s restaurants, which include Coast, 39 Rue de Jean, and Virginia’s on King.

How to Sign Up

At the time of writing, you can still sign up for the race online. Registration for adults is $30 or $38 if you would also like a t-shirt, and children get in for $10 each. All of the proceeds for this event will be distributed among 30 local charities.

If you want to sign up for the 2019 race but the form has closed, you may still be able to register in person at the Turkey Day Run Expo on Wednesday, November 27th, at the Marion Square tents or before the race begins on Thursday, November 28th. Registration on the day of the event opens at 7 am, so you should have plenty of time to register, pick up your race packet, and get into the corral before the race begins at 9 am.

Knights of Columbus member and race director Tim Cuzmar was recently interviewed about the race on NBC’s Count on News 2. Take a look at their feature for more information and register for the Turkey Day Run.
